Lake Challice has got quite the reputation for making top quality white and rosé wines from New Zealand. Lake Chalice has three unique vineyard sites. Each vineyard has a diverse microclimate, biodiversity and terroir which are seamlessly translated into multi award winning wines by the very talented and my good friend Chloe Gabrielsen (winemaker).
Taking a boutique approach she handcrafts parcels of fruit from single vineyards into elegant, aromatic, fruit driven wines and has garnered a global reputation of outstanding quality.
For me, the perfect window for drinking a top quality 2018 Pinot Noir from Burgundy is now. A wine made this well needs more time in the bottle to mellow and just become the best expression of itself. The average age of the vines is remarkably high, mostly over 50 years, which endows the wines with an extraordinary quality, maturity and concentration.
2018 was one of the best vintages for top quality Pinot Noir near the world famous Gevrey Chambertin region. This winemaker made me fall in love with Pinot Noir!
